white building - rock salt

white house - modern architecture

NaCl house was designed by Architect David Jameson and is located in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. The massive contemporary residence displays a homogeneous white color palette, contrasting the natural surroundings. Here is a description from the architects: “Breaking the prescriptive mold of horizontally layered homes, NaCl House aspires to render unclear the spatial organization of the project and explore an architecture of ambiguous scale.
The resultant massing reveals an imperfect, rough form recalling the natural isometric formation of mineral rock salt. The exterior composition is read as a single object that reflects a dynamic fluid interior. Uncorrelated to the buildings structure, glazing panels are detailed flush to the exterior surface, eliminating shadows which further inhibit a reading of the buildings scale“. How would you comment on the overall layout of this residence, inspired by …salt? Read more [ via : freshome ]

XV house by architecture firm RS+

Sunday, April 15, 2012

The building is located near the old town of Cracow, in the calm district of detached houses, on the hill with beautiful view of Wawel and the mountains. The investor’s idea was that the house should be as high as possible because of the beautiful view, and preserve spatial relations between all floors with the largest as possible opening of the space.

The building stands on the highest point of the street – distinguished by Its cubic form and smooth white elevations, it is the dominant culmination of the surrounding architecture. The shifting blocks are intended to reduce the relatively large optical cubature, whilst also reflecting the functional zones within the house. Read more [ via : architecturelover ]

Modern Architectural Home by Austrian Architecture Firm - unusual folded design

Sunday, April 1, 2012

Created for a couple of professional actors who, apart from wanting a modern architectural work of art, also wanted a home with a connection to its surroundings, Vienna-based architecture firm Xarchitekten designed Folded House in Wienerwald, Austria.
This unique residential design delivers garden access from every room in the house via a walkway that winds its way up the exterior of this contemporary home. The house is also characteristic for its unusual folded form, visible in its striking roof as well as inside, where rooms “fold” into one another to create the illusion of more space than its 3,229 sq. ft., and maintaining an open interior while still defining separate spaces. Glass walls flood interiors with plenty of natural light, while providing spectacular views of the rolling hills and wooded landscape. Read more [ via : trendir]

Ready to learn something today?! A Masia is “a type of rural construction common to the Iberian Peninsula, particularly during the ancient Kingdom of Aragon which have their origins in the Roman villas. They are often large but isolated structures, nearly always associated with a family farming or livestock operation (from Wikipedia)” This is a renovation of a masia in Catalonia, Spain by Cubus, Taller d’Arquitectura that is modern, earthy, simple, textural and gorgeous!

“The project was based in the rehabilitation and improvement of the northern part of an old masia from the XVI th century and the hayloft annex, located in the Baix Empordà (Catalonia).
